Murder charge laid
Matt Draper
Twenty-year-old Robert Harris Lamb of Dartmouth is about five feet nine inches tall, 145 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

ANTIGONISH- After a month of investigation, RCMP charged a man in relation to the stabbing of a local resident.
In a release issued Monday, RCMP stated they charged 20-year-old Dartmouth resident Robert Harris Lamb with the second degree murder of Antigonish’s Jonathan Robert Beaton. Beaton was stabbed during an incident on New Year’s Day in Antigonish.
In the early morning of January 1, RCMP responded to a disturbance at 123 College Street. Upon arrival, police witnessed a large number of people engaged in a disturbance both inside and outside of the residence. Several people received injuries as a result of the incident, including Beaton who later died in hospital.
“Our investigation has determined that we have reasonable/probable grounds to lay a charge of second degree murder,” said acting media relations officer Cpl. MJ DeLuco.
As of press time Tuesday morning, police were still searching for Lamb’s whereabouts and a hearing on a warrant was scheduled for Antigonish Provincial Court that morning.
The RCMP wishes to reassure the public that this was not a random act of violence. The RCMP asked anyone with information on Lamb’s whereabouts to contact police or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Last week, police charged two others and named one more as a person of interest in relation to the New Year’s disturbance but not in relation to Beaton’s death.
Julian Frederick Chittick, age 24, of Halifax appeared in Antigonish Provincial Court last Friday facing five weapons-related offences, one charge of uttering threats, one assault with a weapon charge and one breach of recognizance charge.
On Monday in Antigonish Provincial Court, Chittick elected trial by Supreme Court judge without jury and waved a preliminary inquiry. He is set to return to court on February 10.
Christopher David Fordham faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and two counts of assault causing bodily harm. Fordham was set to return to Antigonish Provincial Court for election and plea on February 2.
An 18 year-old Dartmouth male was released on an undertaking and will appear in provincial court in Antigonish on March 31.
