Second banner for Atom AA Pirates

AMHERST- The Atom AA Pirates scored their second banner win of the season last weekend as they went undefeated at the Bluenose tournament here.
“They were really excited when they got their gold medals and their banner,” said coach Robbie Bissonnette. “With the tournaments we got coming up - we’re going to Cole Harbour in March and the NewPage and the provincials - a couple of wins will set us up nicely, I hope.”
In the first game of the tournament, the Strait-Richmond crew took on the Cumberland Ramblers - the team the Pirates expected to be their toughest competition at the event.
The Pirates won 11-1.
Craig Ryan led the efforts with three goals and an assist. Ryan was the top scorer of the tournament.
Also following through on the offense were Matthew Reynolds, two goals and two assists; Jordan Bissonnette and Cullen MacEachern, one goal and two assists each; Braden Murray, one goal and one assist; Avery Warner, Stephen Fox, and Bryce Reynolds, one goal each.
“The team came out ready to go after a long trip,” Bissonnette said. “It sent the message that we came a long way, but we were ready to play.”
The West Colchester Cobras were the Pirates’ next opponent, and the final was 4-2.
Jordan Bissonnette (from Craig Ryan) scored in the first period, and Matthew Reynolds (from Cullen MacEachern and Braden Murray) connected in the second. Ryan (from Mitchell Bowman) also connected in the middle frame. And Avery Warner (from Ryan) scored in the third.
“Goaltenders Zack Cameron and Logan DeCoste played really well,” Bissonnette said.
The Pirates came out flat in their third game, this time facing Pictou, and the result was a 5-1 lead for the Crushers by the second minute of the second period.
The final was 9-6 for Strait-Richmond.
Braden Murray was the man with the plan this time out, connecting for a hat trick. Also having a strong game were Bryce Reynolds, two goals and an assist; Craig Ryan, a goal and three assists; Stephen Fox, a goal and two assists; Avery Warner, a goal and an assist; and Jordan Bissonnette, a goal.
“They really regrouped and came back for a strong win,” the coach pointed out.
The championship saw the Pirates take on West Colchester once again.
Strait-Richmond won that one 7-0.
Leading the Pirate charge were Braden Murray, two goals; Craig Ryan, two goals and an assist; Stephen Fox, a goal and a two assists; Jordan Bissonnette, a goal and an assist; Avery Warner, a goal; and Cullen MacEachern, two assists.
Logan DeCoste had the shutout. DeCoste was the top netminder of the event.
“And yesterday [Sunday] we had a 7-0 win in the championship against West Colchester.
“The kids are really listening and doing what they’ve been asked,” said Bissonnette. “And the dedication from the parents is just fantastic. We always have a full team, and that makes my job much easier.”
